India Riddle, trained in classical ceramics, is originally from London, but studied art at Rugby School, where she exhibited in the newly-built Lewis Gallery, before bringing her work back to London to show in salon-style settings.
In the piece in Currell Collection, she takes the functional, traditional craft of tile-making and reinterprets it, shifting the vital emphasis from the functional purpose of tiling to pure form and creative reign. She plays with the serenity of organic seascape colours in a variety of mark-making techniques to manifest the artist’s changing presence within the piece.
